Family Craft Stick Christmas Tree Decorations
The holidays are such a special time for families to enjoy making memories together. We love making our own Christmas Tree decorations with our kids each holidays. That way, when we decorate the tree we have reminders of all the fun times we spent together over the previous years. The perfect way to Make Time Together!
Materials Needed:
- colored craft sticks (we used yellow and green)
- glue gun
- ribbon or colored string
- felt letter stickers
- cardboard (we used brown for the tree bases)
- decorations such as sequins, bows, stars and reindeer shapes
- pipe cleaners
- glitter pens
Preparation:
Before presenting all of the inviting materials to your kiddos, make sure you are well prepared. We would recommend gluing the craft sticks into the tree and star shapes in advance to avoid inpatient kids distracting you. You can of course attempt other shapes if you are feeling brave! To attach the ribbon or string just glue it between two craft sticks, and hold them together for 30 seconds or so.
Time to Decorate:
The aim of this craft is for your family to enjoy spending time together without screens or distractions. Encourage your kids to put their personality into their decorations. They can use as much or as little of the materials. Don't worry about how the decoration looks, simply enjoy the process together! The glitter pens are always a big hit with younger members of the family!
Once the decorations are finished, lay them out to dry overnight. Be warned, the glitter pens can take a while!
Hanging on the Tree:
The next day make sure you wait until you are together as a family. Allow each member to choose where their decoration will hang. This can also be a nice time to pick out previous year's creations. Seeing how your kids' artistic skills have changed can be a nice way to reflect on the year.
Kids get such a kick out of being involved in all things Christmas. Being part of the family tree decorating is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit!
