Our Top 5 Decluttering Tips & Tricks

The beginning of summer can bring so much joy, but it can also bring new chaos, lack of routine and a sense of overwhelm. We recently came across this article from The Boston Globe that talks about families being overwhelmed from too much stuff, too much scheduled, too much screen time and not enough time together. Can you relate? We believe that cutting down on clutter is one simple way that you can help relieve that feeling of overwhelm! So, today we're sharing five tips for decluttering your home.

1. Get rid of 'just in case' stuff

If you're saving it for that 'just in case we host a dinosaur themed birthday party someday' reason ... then just get rid of it. Repeat ... get rid of it! Trust us, the open space created from not storing it any longer will be well worth it!

2. Stop saving toys for younger kids to use 'when they get to that age'

Let’s face it, there are a lot of Christmases, birthdays, Easters, and other opportunities for people to give them gifts between now and then. If you combine that with the toys you save, you will have a huge job managing that stuff.

3. If the kids don't play with it, don't keep it!

Just because you love a toy, doesn't mean that your kids do too. If there are toys cluttering up your playroom, kid's room, living room, etc. and no one touches it ... then donate it to a kid who will love it!

4. The Black Hole

The Hinkle's kids call it “the black hole”. When they don’t pick up after themselves and leave an epic mess, they gather it all up and put it into a plastic tub. (Everything-shoes, toys, game pieces, etc.) If they want it back, they have to do a job from the list to retrieve something from the black hole. In one month’s time, if it is not claimed, it’s donated.

I purchased the extra large bean bag hide away I just want to tell you it is the best invention ever! I dislike stuffed animals myself but my daughter loves them and with this we can compromise. We both absolutely love it! I just want to thank you 😊
