Magnetic LEGO Compatible Play Tray
Ever wish you could have the perfect LEGO Compatible play set up for long road trips? Well we've got just the solution- check out our latest DIY hack, the Magnetic LEGO Compatible Play Tray!
As soon as we got our hands on the brand new MagPlates we knew they would be perfect for making our long family car rides a lot less painful for all involved. And you won't believe how easy this hack is to put together!
What you Need:
- 1 x Creative QT Green 10 in x 10 in MagPlate (also available in Gray and Blue)
- 1 x large baking tray (we used this 17 in x 11 in one from Stop & Shop)
- 3 x magnetic tins with lids (we found ours at The Dollar Tree)
- selection of LEGOs
Instructions:
Our MagPlates are a 10 in x 10 in LEGO Compatible baseplate which means all you need to do is literally just place it on the tray and it holds firm. No slipping around as you turn corners in the car!
Once the MagPlate is in position, you can add the three tins to the tray, along with some LEGOs. Sometimes the lids on the magnetic tins don't stay on too well. If that's the case we found that it really helps to simply add a strip of electrical tape around the rim of the tin. This gives it a better grip with the lid.
This tray is just the right size to sit across your kid's lap and it gives them plenty of building space. We also love that the lids can be put on the tins when they are not in use to minimize LEGO spillages!
Would your kids love to be able to build in the car? It sure beats endless hours of screen time during those long summer vacation car rides.

I L.O.V.E. this idea. I’m going to make one for my grandson… he and his parents are driving from FL to Montana for vacation this summer. This will be perfect and he likes to build with LEGOS. Thanks Dana Sue and Adam!
