Instructions:
The video above gives step-by-step instructions for assembling this IKEA HACK LEGO Compatible Storage Tray, but a few additional suggestions are outlined below.
Cutting the baseplates to size-
We have a blog post dedicated to walking you through the steps of How to Cut Peel 'n Stick Baseplates to Size. It can be a slightly nerve wracking process for fear of not wanting to mess up. Trust us, it's a really easy process. Just make sure you have a sharp utility or craft knife, and create a line of bricks to cut against.
Rough edges-
If after cutting the baseplates you see some rough edges that you are concerned about, just use some sandpaper or even a nail file to smooth them out.
Sticking down the baseplates-
We just eyeballed this process, but if you want to be more accurate you can measure distances from each edge. Using bricks to line up the baseplates as you stick them down helps to secure a good alignment.
Sleek storage-
The real advantage of this creation is that it can be folded down and stored in relatively small spots. The IKEA bed tray is easy enough for kids to set up themselves, which is always a big bonus!
This simple DIY IKEA HACK is the perfect way to declutter those building bricks. Keeping them organized but easily accessible is a great way to keep the kids creative and to keep the parents sane!
