1. Put the timer on!

Nothing gets kids more motivated to move than if you say the word race!! You could have so much fun splitting the family into two teams, each choosing a chore and racing to see which team finishes their chores first!

2. Make an inspection sheet!

Did your parents ever pretend to have a room inspection sheet when you were kids? We can still remember our parents asking us to tidy our bedrooms and then walking in with a clipboard, pencil and a whole lot of pretending to be very serious attitude! We used to find it so funny! If you have older kids they could even design the inspection sheets themselves- what a great link to some literacy!

3. Roll the dice!

Our kids LOVE this one, unless they roll a high number, then they aren't quite so keen!! Each family member rolls the dice on Sunday night and the number they get determines the number of chores they have to do that week! Roll a one and you are in for a chilled out week, roll a six and you best get the rubber gloves on!

4. The leader board!

If your kids are anything like ours, everything is a competition! One technique we use to create some friendly / sometimes not-so-friendly family competition is we split up into teams and assign points for each chore. When a chore is done the kids add the points to their team's total. We have the results displayed on the chalkboard in our kitchen so that they can easily erase the numbers and also move themselves up the leader board! This is a great link to numeracy for them!

5. Switcheroo!

The kids get so excited about this one! Everyone in the family gathers around the pot of Chore Sticks and randomly chooses one. Next everyone gets one roll of the dice, if they roll a six they are allowed to swap their stick with anyone else! You should see the tension every time the dice is rolled!

And don't forget, your pack of Chore Sticks comes with 8 blank sticks ready for you to customize. This can be a great opportunity to add some fun and laughter!
