DIY Interactive Whiteboard Makerspace
Are you looking to create a fun and engaging makerspace for your students, or even for your own kids at home? We've got just the hack for you, and it's as easy as Peel, Stick, Play with our Peel 'n Stick Baseplates!
Materials Needed:
- Creative QT Peel 'n Stick Baseplates - We used a 4-pack of yellow, costing $26.95 - View the full collection here
- Whiteboard, measuring 35 x 23 inches - We used this one
- Building bricks such as LEGOs or DUPLOs
- Whiteboard accessories such as dry erase markers and magnets
Instructions:
Make sure the surface of your whiteboard is clean and dry. Place your 4 baseplates in the middle of the building brick section of the whiteboard. Measure the border around the 4 baseplates to ensure they are centered in the space. You can mark this out using a dry erase marker.
Then it is simply a case of peeling and sticking the baseplates. It really helps to use bricks to connect the baseplates as you stick them. This ensures that they are perfectly aligned for building. The picture below shows that you can hardly tell where the baseplates connect.
Potential Benefits to your Students or Kids:
This simple set up will get kids playing with building bricks in a whole new way. Building on the vertical is hugely beneficial to youngsters as it develops their coordination, spacial awareness, fine motor skills, and gross motor skills. It also inspires whole new levels of creativity!
One of the things we love about this DIY project is that it inspires collaboration. There is enough space to have a builder and a writer/artist, which encourages important skills such as communication, team work, and problem solving.
You could challenge your kids or students to have one person drawing, while the other person copies the image using building bricks. Such a great STEAM activity!
If you are a teacher or home educator, a DIY makerspace such as this can promote learning in a hands-on way for your students. Whether it is used for literacy, art, or numeracy, the play-based learning opportunities are endless!
We'd love to see your own DIY makerspaces using our Peel 'n Stick Baseplates. Don't forget to tag us, @creativeqt on Facebook and Instagram.
