Craft Caddy Hack! How to Organize LEGOS
Looking for a cheap way to keep your child's LEGO collection contained and neatly organized? Here's a super simple craft caddy hack that keeps it all in one place, and most importantly, within easy reach of the little builders.
Materials Needed:
- Craft Caddy (we used one from Michaels for $7.49 in the sale, regular price $14.99)
- Creative QT Baseplates, Variety Pack, 2 Green and 2 Blue, $22.95
- Selection of LEGOs
The biggest task of this decluttering project is spending a little time sorting the LEGOs into the five storage areas. Arrange them however best suits your child's building needs. For our Creative QT tester, his passion is things that go, so we organized the bricks into categories relevant for building vehicles.
What we love about this craft caddy is that it is super easy for kids to access. Yes, we want to avoid the sea of bricks on the floor, but the last thing we want to do is deny our children access to such a great open-ended toy by locking it away in a cupboard. As the video shows, it is easy for even younger kids to access the baseplates and LEGOS, and it provides them with a fun invitation to build and somewhere to build on.
Presenting LEGOs in a neatly organized way will help your child in their quest to learn through play. It will also help to avoid them getting frustrated when they can't find the piece they need.
The great thing about this method of organizing LEGOs is that it is relatively small, and therefore manageable for a child to keep neat (hopefully!). Before letting your child loose with building, make sure you spend a little time explaining how the LEGOs are organized. After a few times of helping them to tidy the bricks away after play, hopefully your little one will be able to keep them organized all by theirselves.
