Building Brick Fall Corn Craft
This fall we are Making Time Together by crafting our hearts out with this fun corn themed process art activity. We love making DIY decorations and this one was even more popular because we got to use our beloved LEGOs to paint with!
Materials Needed:
- white card
- green construction paper or card
- selection of fall-colored acrylic paints- we used red, orange, yellow and brown
- selection of building bricks such as LEGOs & DUPLOS
- paint palette or plate for the paints
Instructions:
Cut out corn shapes from the white card, and husk segments from the green construction paper. As our kids are quite young, this was already prepped for them. Older kids might enjoy getting to draw and cut out their own corn and husk shapes though.
Add some fall color paints to a plate or paint palette. We opted for red, orange, yellow and brown to make the decorations as colorful as possible. Place some building bricks out and get busy printing the paint onto the corn! We used some trays to print on to contain the mess!
Both kids loved exploring the different colors and printing techniques.
Our 18 month old crafter opted for the larger DUPLO bricks and loved being hands on with he paint! The great thing with process art is that it is all about the experience, therefore squishing the paint with your fingers is totally allowed!
Our 5 year old crafter thought it was super cool making prints with his little 4-stud LEGOs. He later enjoyed comparing the different prints left by the LEGOs and DUPLOs.
Our favorite aspect of this activity... look at those busy hands crafting side by side. What a perfect snapshot of Making Time Together!
Once the corns are covered in beautiful colors, leave them to dry.
The next stage is to glue the green husks and beautifully decorated corns together. We just used regular school glue for this.
Don't they look awesome! Each one is unique and full of fall colors.
We chose to turn our corns into hanging decorations. To do this simply add a hole using a hole punch and thread through some ribbon and tie a knot.
These are a beautiful DIY fall decoration for the home!
The best thing about this type of craft is that there is no right or wrong way to do it! Process art is a complete leveler when it comes to artistic abilities. The youngest in the family will be just as capable as the eldest!
We really hope you give this fun project a try over the fall season. Nothing beats some quality family time getting creative!
